Welcome to 'Screen On The Green' Tewin
The film for this month, showing on Monday 19th October, is My Favourite Cake (2024). This bitter-sweet dark comedy is an international co-production between Iran, France, Sweden and Germany that had its première at the Berlin International Film Festival.
Set in the repressive regime of Tehran, it follows the story of Mahin, a 70 year old lonely widow who invites a single cab driver (Faramarz) to her home for an evening of connection, wine and baking. Shot within the confines of a repressive environment, it's a tender, funny and moving tale but the film makers sacrificed their own safety to make the film which includes criticism of the Iranian regime.
