Welcome to 'Screen On The Green' Tewin

This month's film, showing on Monday16th February is Diva, a 1981 French thriller adapted from the novel by Daniel Odier.

It follows Jules, a young postman obsessed with opera who becomes entangled in a dangerous criminal plot involving two audio recordings : one tape is a bootleg recording of an opera star and the other incriminates a senior police officer in a crime ring.

Directed by Jean--Jacques Beineix and starring Frederic Andre and Wilhelmenia Fernandez, Diva is considered a pivotal film in the development of the 1980s cinematic movement known as cinema du look. characterised by stylish art direction and a blend of genres including noir, new-wave and romance.  And of course there's the typical motor-cycle chase through the Metro and the streets of Paris as Jules is hunted by gangsters ad the police.
