Welcome to 'Screen On The Green' Tewin.
On Monday 19th May we will be showing Ex- Machina (2014), a low budget British science - fiction film starring Alicia Vikander, Dumhnall Gleeson and Oscar Isaac.
It follows a talented programmer in a global internet company who is asked by his CEO to test an “intelligent” humanoid android robot to see if it can behave like a human. If you can imagine that it’s possible to create such an android with artificial intelligence, it raises big questions, e.g. if you create a better one, is it ethical to turn off the old one?
The Director, Alex Garland, first had the idea when he was a young teenager programming and experimenting with his own computer, and developed his ideas for the film in the following years. It was first released in the UK following a showing at British Film Institute Southbank and received various British Academy nominations.
With a small cast it’s a sci-fi film of ideas rather than visual spectacle.
