|Title||THACS AGM & Talk on Beekeeping|
The business meeting will be followed by a break for refreshments and then there will be a talk entitled An Introduction to Beekeeping from our guest speaker Hannah Reeves.
Hannah’s involvement with beekeeping started early. Following a work placement with the bee research team at Rothamsted Research, she studied Ecology at University where she compared bees in urban and rural habitats. Graduation was followed by a three-year Bee Farming Apprenticeship at the London Honey Company where she learned about all aspects of commercial beekeeping. She now runs a small Hertfordshire beekeeping business.
Her talk will cover the bees’ life cycle, the roles of the bees in the hive and how they produce honey and other products. She will tell us about the best plants for bees at different times of the year and how they impact the taste of the honey. This will be demonstrated in the most appropriate way, with an opportunity to taste various honeys yourself.
There is no admission charge for the evening and no booking is necessary. Non-members are very welcome but not able to vote. Any non-members who just wish to attend the talk are advised to arrive by 8:30pm.
