Tewin is represented on the committee of The Hertfordshire Association for
Local History (HALH) by Linda Gilley, who is also a Vice president of the
Association. There has been much interest in the past in the history of the
village and its environs. Courses on researching local history were run for the
Tewin Society by the late Lionel Mumby and Cambridge Extra-Mural Studies
in the 1980s.
The Association is an umbrella group for all historical and archaeological
societies around Hertfordshire. Its committee includes representatives from
history associations across Hertfordshire, the university of Hertfordshire and
the County Archives.
It holds three annual public events around the county during the year and
three winter lectures on Zoom –
Its spring meeting usually comprises a morning of short talks from
local history societies about their current activities. In the afternoon the
Association’s AGM followed by the Annual Lionel Mumby Memorial lecture
takes place.
We arrange a visit to a garden or house of historical significance
in the summer.
and in the autumn we hold a Symposium on a single topic with talks
from eight or so speakers over a full day. In 2025 the topic will be on a
transport theme.
