07 Family Day, July 2007

On Sunday 15th July Friends Of Tewin held a very successful Family Day on Upper Green.

Our Family Day was held on Sunday, 15 July 2007 and it is well described by John Sheridan’s article in The Mercury dated 20 July. On Sunday 15th July Friends Of Tewin held a very successful Family Day on Upper Green. The theme of the day was the celebration and handover of the long awaited playground to the children of the Parish for their use both now and in the future. We were delighted The Lord Laming of Tewin, accompanied by Lady Laming, performed the opening ceremony together with two children from Tewin Cowper School, Emily Joy and Callum Hulse. Other guests included David Fitzpatrick from the Herts. Community Foundation who awarded part of the grant monies towards the provision of the playground. The remainder was provided by the National Lottery Fund. The Revd. Coralie McCluskey blessed the playground prior to the cutting of the ribbon. Despite a weather warning of heavy rain the event drew large crowds and fortunately the bad weather bypassed Tewin. Over 50 classic cars and other vehicles were on display including a 1911 Renault taxi used during the first world war to transport troops. Entertainment and displays were provided by a number of groups and organisations within Tewin, demonstrating the many facilities available to parishioners The crowds were also treated to some excellent singing by children from our village School. Also available were a Bouncy Castle, Playbus , Punch and Judy, a Rock Band from Simon Balle School and some very large but friendly snakes. Highlight of the available refreshments was a pig roast. Friends of Tewin are grateful for the support and assistance of many parishioners, too many to name, who contributed in so many ways to a very successful event we were able to provide almost without any charges thanks to previous fund raising events.
