Mr and Mrs Christmas Carols on the Green, December 2009

The Origin of the Friends of Tewin

This is Part of a letter written by Wyn Carlton for the Millennium Committee in the year 2001:

“When the Millennium Committee was formed in July 1998 there was a great deal of apprehension and many doubts about how or what could be achieved to mark the Millennium in our village.

Well you all know what the Committee and you the people of Tewin have achieved during the last year.

I hope the memories of the History of Tewin Exhibition, the wonderful tapestries as well as the Oak trees planted both in the school and on the village green, the village sign, now in its planning stage and the Residents Registry to be done shortly, will all be permanent reminders of the year 2000. To mark what has been a wonderful two year effort A New Year's Eve Party was held in the Memorial Hall.

Let's now take the Spirit of the Millennium one step further by forming a group to be called the Friends of Tewin.

This group will be completely independent, forming its own committee and constitution, Its aims would be fund raising and lending helping hands where and when needed, able to assist all the organisations in Tewin.

If you would like to know more and are interested in supporting this idea, please come to an open meeting in the Memorial Hall.”

In February of that year 2001 Friends of Tewin was indeed formed and after an open meeting in the Memorial Hall, a committee was elected. From there it became a group that went from strength to strength.

Although some of the committee members have changed over the years the idea and suggestions are still as fresh as ever. Some events now are annual and recognized by the people of Tewin as part of village life.

The people of Tewin have always supported all that is arranged which tries to include all ages, and we have been able to finance many projects for the benefit of the village .

Please see the events calendar for any forthcoming dates that have been arranged, please see our events album to see pictures of recent events we have organised.
