How time flies when having fun and the Friends of Tewin have had fun, planning and organizing the events for 2007. Although it takes a lot of hard work, we are always rewarded by the encouragement and participation of the village.
We are always looking to making funds and this year's Senior Citizens' lunch was helped by a raffle at last year's “Carols around the Christmas Tree” event and various other donations given to us.
At our A.G.M. in February 2007 we welcomed new residents to the village who attended and have since kept in touch. An amendment was made to the constitution and we elected an Honary President for the first time. Don Southgate accepted the honour.
Our finances appeared good for the coming year. More details can be heard at this year's AGM to be held in Tewin Memorial Hall at 8pm on 18th February 2008. All are welcome, particularly if anyone would like to join the committee, as we are a member short.
Last year we were approached by the Parish Council to see if we could apply for a grant towards the new proposed childrens' playground on Upper Green. Ben Roberts undertook this job and a grant of £7,000 was awarded. As part of the requirements we had to plan an opening ceremony and decided to make a day of it for Tewin. 15th July was the day chosen, and we spent many busy months arrangint it. Also includes was a very popular car display. The day was a great success, with most of it being free except the food. Lord Laming officially opened the Playground. Pictures can be seen on the website.
We were also approached by some members of Tewin Society to provide the luches and teas for a proposed Symposium in November for the Herts. Association for Local History. This was another successful fund raising event for us.
December brought us back again for a Carols around the Tree (again see pictures on the website). Committee members have also helped at the Momorial Hall's Jumble Sales and Fete. We laid a wreath on Remembrance Sunday.
Donations were made to the Parish Council for help towards the electricity of the Lower Green. Money was given to the Steering Group for the shop to purchase a freezer. Our own Tapestry Kneeler for the church was accepted and blessed at St. Peters. We started our own web page on the Tewin website.
We hope that as many of you as possible can come along to the AGM.
Thanking all our “Friends” in the village who help us when we most need it.
